Three Degrees of EggFury

So my last couple of days in the Buenos Aires were quite fun.

We gave up on the drinking and focused mainly on eating.

Also, we spent an afternoon walking around this cool little area with lots of colorful buildings.

Also we toured a soccer stadium...

And did some more walking around the city.

At one point, back in that colorful area of town, I was walking down the street and I noticed two girls on bikes about 50 feet away coasting slowly toward me. One was staring at me intently. I get stared at a lot, so I'm kind of used to it, but for some reason I stared back. As she came closer, she KEPT STARING. I made a weird face at her, like what the hell are you looking at. Suddenly she yelled, "DENNIS!"

I was stunned. I blinked. Twice. And was like, "...awhaaaaa?"

She stopped her bike and got off.

"DENNIS!"

I was like, "uh...hi..."

She came toward me, arms outstretched, "Aren't you going to give me a hug?"

I have never seen this person in my life. I gave her a hesitant hug.

OK. So obviously this girl knows me somehow, and obviously I should know who she is... I played along, hoping that I'd solve the mystery at some point during our conversation. We made small talk about when she had arrived and when I was leaving and what we've been up to down here. About 5 minutes into the conversation she's like, "Wait. Do you not know who I am?"

I winced, "Sorry....I really don't..."

Turns out she is Taku's friend Michelle, who he was staying with last last week when he was visiting LA. We had met at the GOOD Party and had been talking about how we were both going be in Buenos Aires at the same time, but of course I had been slightly inebriated and had absolutely no recollection... Also she went to Brown and we had met at Campus Dance. (Again, I was probably intoxicated.)

But even weirder?

OK. Here goes, try to follow.

So during my conversation with Michelle, it somehow came out that I am from Barrington. Michelle is best friends and former roommates with Kristin G., also from Barrington, also went to Brown, who I am also friends with and grew up with but haven't talked to in about five years (different friend circles, you know how that goes). One thing I didn't realize was that Kristin G. is now also a photographer! "Yes! She's a photographer now in NYC! You should definitely get in touch with her again. I'm sure you guys would have a lot to talk about." I made a mental note to email her at some point.

So we part ways. I can't believe how many random people I've bumped into in Buenos Aires. I get home to Tee's place and check my email. And I have an email...from KRISTIN G!!!

How did this happen? Well it turns out that while I was busy bumping into Michelle, Kristin G. had just bumped into Taku in NYC! They had somehow talked about how he had just seen me in LA and that I had just taken his headshots and stuff and that we should talk since we're kind of doing the same thing. Weird?

WEIRD.

Our world is too small.

Totally epic club

We went out last night to this club called Alsina.

The place was ENORMOUS.

It was three stories, with the top two floors overlooking the main dancefloor.

The place was packed and everyone was hot and there was a moving stage/platform that carted a quartet of the hottest dancers EVER back and forth across the room to the main stage.

Confetti and stuff sprayed from everywhere.

There was a crazy light show. Beers were 6 pesos ($2).

It was incredible.

AND I bumped into Danny, the head of music video production at Sony who oversaw many of the projects we used to work on at G&B prior to the little F.A. incident.

Danny was there with his hot boyfriend and a couple of other cute friends and introduced me around and it is mind-blowing to bump into the randomest people in the randomest of places.

We left the club around 4am and told the cab driver to take us to FOOD. He did not let us down.

And I took a picture of Tee through my breadroll.

BA fun

Last night we went to a party hosted by another Brown person in the BA, Leslie.

It was a fun mix of people. Some Spanish-speaking, some English-speaking.

There was a girl there who went to Hotchkiss. She knew Dan and ChrisP. It is is weird how small our worlds are.

There were star-shaped chicken nuggets...

And also there was a weird Spanish dude in a Ducktales head-cover-mask thing...

Also, Shane came by with his new 17-year-old girlfriend in tow. (Yes, apparently there are people more epic than TimLoh.)

...........................

Today we woke up at noon.

Went to a fancy mall and food court.

Walked around the city. Walked through some parks.

Ate some churros.

\

And lasagna.

And fried mussels/oysters.

Then we went to the enormous cemetery that houses the mausoleum of Eva Peron.

You can actually see some of the hundred-year-old coffins. WEIRD!!!!

And coming up next....the gays!

Sweet sweet alcohol

Argentines eat dinner at 10 and go out at midnight.

We did the same.

We went to this bar, The Alamo, where we bumped into my buddy Shane, formerly a regular at Q´s! He is super tall and super cute and just bought a couple apartments in B.A. (yes, a couple) and that was enjoyable and totally random.

Drinks were incredibly cheap. We proceeded to get tanked.

Also there were shots. They were a bad idea.

Then we went to another bar.

I found a gay and nothing happened...so we left...

But then, on the way home...something happened...

Arrival: Buenos Aires

So I got an exit row seat from LAX to Houston, no problem.

I got to Houston and the 10-hour flight to Buenos Aires was booked full.

As soon as I got out of the plane I made a beeline for the first Continental ticket agent I saw, a rotund dirty-blonde with saggy features and horrid makeup.

"Hi...how are you...I was wondering if there´s any way you could possibly help me get an exit row seat."

She looked up lazily. "I´m sorry sir. It´s a completely full flight..."

"I´m just worried that I might not fit in the seat."

"Well...I´ve checked in Yao Ming before, and he was flying coach, and if he can fit, I´m pretty sure you´ll be fine," she replied with a slow-blink which is basically the professional equivalent of rolling your eyes.

I was like "Bitch, Please."

But I guess you can´t really argue with the Yao...

I sprinted to the gate where people were already boarding and begged the lady there to just put me on a list. Any list. Just write my name down on some paper. She said fine and scribbled down my name on a napkin. 5 minutes later I had an exit row seat. Nice...

..................................

Tee picked me up at the airport. We went back to her apartment. Took a nap. And went to lunch at 3pm at a cute little yummy place.

We ate a giant bowl of french fries avec mayo.

Then I had saffron rice topped with lamb tenderloin.

All prices here are the same as the US, but cheap. For instance the lamb tenderloin-rice thing would be $24 in the US, here it´s 24 pesos...which is 8 dollars.

We just went shopping.

And now we´re internetting.

This is going to be fantastic week.
